Tho very neglected and overgrown its boasts multiple large live oaks and various palms along the marsh edge. Luckily there are a few fairly vacant sites I would like to grow citrus. A neighbor said we are in zone 9. We will use this lot for private RV camping in the Winter months. Summers are too hot!! So.. I am concerned with the lack of Summer maintenance. I and a neighbor also have beehives. What type of citrus need the least amount of Summer maintenance? What about spraying for bugs and disease? With bees I dont want to use anything detrimental to them. They will have plenty of Sun but must rely on the rain for water in the Summer. Maybe Cactus are a better option?
Thanks
SusanAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01802819800834369222noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051633486819426115.post-46462288864326737062020-06-03T15:45:57.475-07:002020-06-03T15:45:57.475-07:00I planted a lemon tree several 5 years ago. You did not mention where you live, ...Hello, Lorie.
You did not mention where you live, so I am going to go on some basics.
You probably should have watered it before the freeze, but, being that you didn't, we are where we are.
To see if it is dead, start at the highest point you can reach and scrape some bark. If you see green, it is alive. If you see brown, move down until you see green. If you get to the ground and still all brown, then it is dead.
If you plant them in the ground, do it on the south or west side of the house. Close to a wall if possible.
You can grow them in large containers for many years. That way if it does get cold, you can move them into an unheated garage.
Hope that helps?!Darrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09174646683640212162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051633486819426115.post-23226426773780627682017-03-31T12:46:26.633-07:002017-03-31T12:46:26.633-07:00I have just purchased 4 citrus trees in 10 gal. co...I have just purchased 4 citrus trees in 10 gal. containers, they are about 4 feet tall. Should I keep them in containers in the ground, or plant them? I have 4 other citrus bushes that did well until the last freeze in 2017.
